Because there is no such thing as too much of a good thing… in regards to Shovel Knight at least, the free Specter of Torment expansion will be released on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS this and next week. The game will first roll out on the Wii U tomorrow, April 21, and the Nintendo 3DS version will hit the digital shelves on April 25.
The expansion was first available on the Nintendo Switch when the console first hit the market, and those that wanted it picked it up as a stand-alone game. Those who already own the base game on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will get the expansion for free.
Darkness looms! Specter of Torment will arrive as a free update to Shovel Knight on the North American eShop

Only one more expansion to go…
I often wonder if Yacht Club Games is ever going to stop making Shovel Knight expansions. After these first two and the eventual conclusion with King Knight’s campaign, you really have to wonder. Why stop? The game is still popular and the new payment method makes it more lucrative than ever. Unless you have a personal project you want to make, or you want to develop a full-blown 16-bit sequel, again, why stop?
Shovel Knight has been making the rounds for three years now, and it’s not slowing down. It’s your cash cow and your calling in life…
Okay, you caught me. I just want my Polar Knight campaign, but you can’t blame a man for trying, can you? Check out Specter of Torment on all three Nintendo platforms this week.
