Franchises left and right are breaking their launch records now that gaming is bigger than ever, and even the niche franchises are seeing the benefits of larger audiences. Persona 5 is available now for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, and wouldn’t you know it? It’s already the biggest Persona game ever!
Granted, it has a pretty small test group to compete against. Persona was a niche franchise up until Persona 3 expanded its audience, and even that was a slow burn to success. Persona 4 rolled out well in the Western world, too, but here it is, Persona 5, sitting on top of the world, or at least the UK sales charts one week after launch.
- Persona 5
- Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands
- LEGO Worlds
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Mass Effect: Andromeda
- FIFA 17
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Lego City Undercover
- Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
Pushing Atlus over the edge
Those 1.5 million shipments are looking quite nice right about now. Not only did Persona 5 push a massive number of units, its launch also marks the first time Atlus has ever topped the UK’s weekly charts. Granted, it did it at a quiet time of the year, but that’s just smart marketing strategy, not a coincidence.
Persona 5 is also the first JRPG to open at number 1 since Ni no Kuni did back in 2013. The game is available now for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Don’t look now, but it’s the highest rated video game of the year that’s not titled The Legend of Zelda.
