Amidst the news and drama that’s come from Atlus’ oddly draconian take on streaming and sharing content from Persona 5, we have word that the game is doing well on a global level. Atlus’ Japanese PR arm announced that the title has shipped more than 1.5 million copies to retailers worldwide.
Persona 5 launched exclusively in Japan last fall. Back then, Atlus announced that they’d shipped 550,000 copies to retailers. They shipped more to retailers after that date, but sales slowed. It’s entirely feasible that the western world saw more than 500,000 copies shipped to retailers with the first shipment.
Persona 5 will likely be the commercially best in the series
Thanks to word of mouth for past games, the ever-growing Atlus fanbase and the critical reception of Persona 5 ahead of its release earlier this week, it’s likely that this game will be the best-selling title in the franchise. Which is great news, considering the fact that the Persona property is consistently one of the best in the gaming world.
Really, even if you have a passing interest in JRPGs, get this game. It’s fantastic. It’s selling for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
