A sequel to the Moto Z is reportedly on the way, though virtually no details about the device are known at this time.
Evan Blass on Wednesday shared an image for the device’s supposed logo, indicating a Moto Z2 is on the horizon. The current Moto Z, which was unveiled last summer, is a high-end Android handset that sports an elegant all-glass design and premium features.
What sets the Moto Z apart is its support for Moto Mods, which magnetically attach to the device and provide additional functionality. It’s unclear if the Moto Z2 will follow a similar approach.
The Moto Mods supported by the Moto Z worked as advertised, but the cost of the accessories made them difficult to recommend. Motorola will have to devise a way to make the Mods more attractive while also making them affordable.
More info should drop soon
The original Moto Z was announced in June of last year, so we should expect new information soon if a sequel is indeed on the way. There’s certainly a lot to like about the Moto Z—we were also big fans of the Moto Z Force—but a simple iterative update probably won’t be enough to convince people that a more modular approach is the way to go.
We’ll keep an eye out for any additional information in the coming days and week.
