Bayonetta got an 8-bit version for April Fools, but some real Bayonetta news is coming

Usually, April Fools jokes try to trick you into believing something is real that really isn’t. Sega, apparently, decided to go the opposite direction, and it looks like we might be getting some Bayonetta news very soon.

The company released an 8-bit version of the Umbran Witch’s adventure on Steam this weekend as an April Fools joke. You can play it, and it’s free. Awesome.

In the description for the game, it says that “Sega’s favorite Umbran Witch climaxes her way onto PC.” In any other situation, that’d look like a tone-deaf taunt toward the PC fanbase. Something sure to garner hate even on a day like April 1.

It’s like a reverse joke

The achievements tied to the game, however, pointed eagle-eyed gamers toward a teaser page on Sega’s official site.

The teaser page has a countdown set to expire about 8 days from now – on April 11. In the background, you can see Bayonetta’s signature gun… shoe… things in glorious high-resolution.

All this is suggestive of a port of one or both of Platinum’s Bayonetta games on PC. That’s good news for PC gamers who like action, and a pretty nice surprise among all the fake-outs that come with April 1.

We’ll know more 8 days from now.
