At long last, Uber is giving riders (in the UK, US and Canada) the ability to alter their pickup location once they’ve ordered a ride. The move is part of an ongoing effort to avoid the “frustrating situation where riders aren’t riding and drivers aren’t earning.”
Obviously, customers won’t be able to change their location to the other side of town, but they’ll be able to make slight adjustments. Once they’ve done so, the driver is sent the updated location and can re-route appropriately using either in-app or third-party navigation.
Rather than using the feature to simply correct a mistake, we believe it’ll also prove to be particularly useful on a cold day, when, instead of standing around waiting for their ride, users want to start walking in the direction of their destination to keep warm.
“The pickup is a core part of the Uber experience and we’re always looking for ways to make it as painless as possible for both riders and drivers,” says the firm. “This simple fix gives riders more control over their pickup experience and saves everyone time and avoidable headaches.”
The functionality will make its way to other countries
After a successful trial period in the aforementioned regions, the functionality will gradually make its way to other countries. In the meantime, if you reside in one of the three supported nations, head over to the App Store (no, it’s not available on Android yet) to install the update.
