Galaxy S8 vs. LG G6: Is LG’s new flagship already in trouble?

by Brandon Russell | March 29, 2017March 29, 2017 2:45 pm PDT

LG impressed a lot of people when the G6 was unveiled. The device features a beautiful design, a massive display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, and all the trimmings, including expandable storage, IP68 dust and water resistance, and wireless charging.

For a lot of people, the G6 is a perfect phone. But we can’t help but think the device, despite recently being unveiled, already feels outdated compared to the Galaxy S8.

While the two phones match up in a lot of instances, there’s one key difference: processor. The LG G6 comes with a powerful Snapdragon 821 chip, while the Galaxy S8 sports Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor, which is built using a 10 nm process. That probably won’t mean much to most people, but the new technology promises to feature vastly improved performance and battery life.

Let’s be honest, the LG G6 will be just fine with last year’s processor. But for consumers who seek the very latest in mobile technology, the only way to get that is with the Galaxy S8. That’s a huge bummer, too, because the G6 is a smart update while that takes a measured step forward into the future. It’s (almost) exactly what LG fans wanted.

It’ll come down to perception when these two phones are available to purchase. Most people won’t mind the differences in specs. But for Android enthusiasts, the LG G6 already feels like it’s a generation behind. Then again, any phone does when compared to the Galaxy S8.
