Square Enix Super Famicom classic Romancing SaGa 3 coming to Vita, iOS, and Android

Square Enix has confirmed that it will release the Super Famicom JRPG classic Romancing SaGa 3 for modern audiences. Those with a PlayStation Vita will be able to pick the game up at some point down the line as well as those who use Android or iOS.

This new version of the game, the first time Square Enix has revisited the title since its original 1995 release, will feature new menus, background images, and character art. Touch screen controls will also be an option for those who want them.

Square Enix provided no release window, nor any hints of a localization.

English and a Vita release, please!

North Americans were lucky and snagged the first ever English release of Romancing SaGa 2 when Square Enix published it last May. Then, we were not so lucky when Square Enix thought it would be smart to charge us $18 for a 25-year-old video game on a platform not many of us want to use.

Series creator Akitoshi Kawazu stated that he is working on bringing the English versions to the PS Vita for fans to finally legitimately enjoy, but this project has yet to materialize in any way.

If he’s telling the truth and not just speaking in big dreams, perhaps he is waiting to bundle these two games together for a North American Vita release. I’d dip into that, but only on a Vita. Not through a smartphone.

Better yet, Square Enix, I would dip into that on the Nintendo Switch right alongside the Seiken Densetsu Collection.

Romancing SaGa 2 and 3 are often considered the peaks of Square Enix’s rebellious JRPG series, and they are also the two we never got to play in North America. Along with Seiken Densetsu 3, I’d say it’s time for this legacy of evasion to finally come to an end.
