Resident Evil: Code Veronica rated for a PlayStation 4 release

Capcom is keeping the Resident Evil remasters rolling with one of the franchise’s most polarizing entries now aimed for a PlayStation 4 release. Well, allegedly aimed. The German USK has rated Resident Evil: Code Veronica for a PlayStation 4 release, hinting that we might be getting an announcement soon.

Code Veronica was originally released on the Dreamcast before making its way to the PlayStation 2 and GameCube. An HD version was put out on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011, meaning that this re-release on modern consoles isn’t entirely unexpected.

We’ll wait for Capcom to give an official word before declaring this one a certainty. But given the series’ recent history, yeah. This will likely happen.

A divisive entry in the series,

Resident Evil: Code Veronica is notorious for being a bit on the long side and very tedious in its design. Some remember it fondly for its story, its breakthrough graphics, and the return of Resident Evil 2 star Claire Redfield. Others don’t like it for how is fails to evolve from the previous two games, drawing out their aged design for a few hours too long.

This was also the game that inspired Capcom to shake up the series a little bit for future releases, leading to the creation of Devil May Cry, which was originally Resident Evil 4, all of Resident Evil 4’s other failed designs, and the final version of Resident Evil 4. So while it’s not the most fondly remembered game in the series, its shortcomings led to brilliant games in the future.

With the removal of the tank controls, similar to how Capcom removed them in Resident Evil HD Remaster and Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster, it could be a better experience. I’d be willing to try it again.
