Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology confirmed to be a 3DS remake, not a sequel

The recently released teaser site from Atlus hinted at a new game from the underrated Nintendo DS JRPG Radiant Historia, but the official reveal in Famitsu confirms it is not a sequel or even a mobile spin-off.

Instead, it is a Nintendo 3DS remake. Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology launches in Japan on June 29, and it will give the fan-favorite title a much needed second chance at life. The remake doesn’t appear to overhaul the graphics, leaving in the Super Nintendo-esque sprites and beautiful battle animations intact, but it does add an entirely new storyline that plays alongside the original one.

More information over the coming months

Details are scarce at the moment, but consider this an excellent way to get caught up on a brilliant game if you missed it the first time around. My guess is that the team behind the game, who all have extensive experience in the Etrian Odyssey, Persona, and the Shin Megami Tensei games as well, will program in 3D effects and find a way to weave the new character into the story.

If all else fails, we’ll definitely know on June 29 when the game launches in Japan for the Nintendo 3DS. No word on a localization yet, but Atlus has a good track record of bringing over all of its games.
