Google Maps will soon help you find your parked car

When parking at a mall or in a crowded neighborhood, finding your car can be a huge hassle. In a big enough lot, it can even be, dare I say, a little scary. What if I’m stuck at this mall forever and have to subsist off Auntie Anne’s pretzels, clothing from the Gap Kid, and a Frozen-themed sleeping bag I found on clearance at Sports Authority?

Forget about all that. Google Maps is going to have our backs soon.

The newest beta version of Google Maps – currently only on Android – shows off some new features that will make all this a lot less painful.

OK Dude, where’s my car?

You can save your parking location by selecting your current location in the Maps screen and selecting “Save your Parking.” You can even add notes about where you parked, set a timer in case you’re on a meter, or add a photo to give you a visual landmark to work off of.

There’s no word yet on when this will become part of the release version of Maps, but it’s definitely going to be useful. I’d be surprised if the feature didn’t show up as a function of the Google Assistant, as well. I expect to be able to say, “OK Google, save my parking location” before too long.
