Accompanying an exciting new Limited Edition reveal, Nintendo has published a new trailer for Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. In it, you’ll find the typical anime cutscenes and English gameplay that accompany each trailer, but this one comes with a bit of news that is sure to polarize the fanbase that the last two games have garnered.
This trailer confirms that “paired units have no place in Valentia,” meaning the mechanic introduced in Fire Emblem Awakening and reinforced in Fire Emblem Fates will be scrapped for this latest game. “Paired units” allowed for characters to double team enemies, often dealing drastically more damage and protecting units from fatal blows. Some loved the mechanic, especially since it tied in with the romance mechanics, but others found it to make the games easy.
Expect lots of fighting over this decision.
Archers and amiibo announcement addressed also
Archers will also be able to attack adjacent tiles for the first time too, giving them a whole new approach to combat, and amiibo will naturally let players summon other Fire Emblem characters into the game. Glad I just picked up Marth for cheap!
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia will be released on May 11 for the Nintendo 3DS.
