One of our favorite phones in recent memory, the Huawei Mate 9, has paired with one of our favorite smart assistants, Amazon’s Alexa. Today you can download the new Huawei Alexa app to fuse the two together. Now, you can control your smart home, order that new Kindle, or read your most recent Audible recording all through your Mate 9. No Echo needed.

Huawei Device USA president Zhendong Zhu says, “With the new Huawei Alexa app, we add intelligent voice control to the rich features already available on Mate 9. We look forward to collaborating with Amazon to further develop more voice-activated mobile experiences.”

With the Mate 9’s speedy Kirin 960 chipset and intelligent machine learning, bringing Alexa to the device is a no-brainer.

Here are some of the things you can do with the Huawei Alexa app:

  • Get information by asking about famous people, dates, and places
  • Find a restaurant, movie or local business
  • Order from Amazon Prime
  • Control connected smart home features such as lights, temperature and appliances
  • Hear weather or traffic updates
  • Check your calendar
  • Hear the news through personalized Flash Briefings

Why is Alexa on everything?

Because, Alexa is fantastic. Even with strong competition from the likes of Google and Apple, Alexa stands on its own. It boasts more than 10,000 skills, and growing.

Not all features of Alexa will come embedded from the start. Additional capabilities will be added along the way as the two companies partner further with each other.

The roll out is available over-the-air across Mate 9 customers in the US. Huawei hopes to roll out the feature to other markets as well as other devices as it becomes possible.
