The voice of 2B explains the insane canon of NieR: Automata and the Drakengard series

The chronology of Yoko Taro’s NieR and Drakengard could take an entire novel to unravel and explain properly… so here is Kira Buckland, the voice actress behind NieR: Automata’s protagonist 2B, rapidly explaining it just under a minute and a half.

How do we get from fire-breathing dragons to an android apocalypse to alien invasions? Like so!

Hideo Kojima, eat your heart out!

And you thought Metal Gear Solid’s chronology was all over the place. At least that makes sense and follows a relatively simple timeline through American history. NieR and Drakengard have no reference points, no connecting characters, few connecting themes, and nothing but the imagination of a man who appears in public with a giant moon on his head to guide the direction.

And yet, somehow, NieR: Automata is one of the most emotionally gripping games in years! To turn this nonsense into a story that can make you feel choked up? More power to Yoko Taro and his team!

NieR: Automata is available now for the PlayStation 4 and PC. Hopefully, Square Enix gets around to re-releasing the rest of the series so we can get properly caught up. You can expect my full review, but certainly not my final thoughts, before the week is out.
