Not so fast, competitive Overwatch players looking to completely destroy the meta with Orisa, Blizzard has indicated a catch with her release on the main client that’s rolling out today.
You will not be able to use Orisa in Competitive Play. Here’s the word from Scott Mercer, principal designer, on the Battle.net forums.
When patch 1.9 releases tomorrow, Orisa will not initially be available for Competitive Play. We want to give players some time to learn about and play Orisa before she’s placed into the crucible of Competitive Play.
She’ll still be immediately available in Quick Play, the Arcade (including custom games with the competitive ruleset), and Play vs. AI.
Orisa not being readily available makes sense
Not all players test characters in the PTR. For the majority of players, today’s patch will mark their first direct experience with Orisa. Not just playing as the new tank, but playing against her, too.
If she’s available right away in the main client’s competitive mode, that’ll place the dynamic of learning into a ranked experience, something I don’t think Blizzard wants.
Try her out in Quick Play or the Arcade. She’ll be up on Competitive Play before long.
