While iPhone owners have had access to Super Mario Run for months now, those of us on Android have been left out in the cold. Just after spring is sprung and the air starts warming up, though, so will Android-owning Nintendo fans.
Nintendo has finally announced the release date for Super Mario Run, its single-touch take on the red-and-blue plumber. The game is available for pre-registration now, but the game will finally be playable on March 23.
But is it too late?
Super Mario Run was a hotly anticipated release, but reality quickly set in and the hype train for the game flew off the rails.
Just 1 in 20 players actually bought the game at its $10 price tag on iPhone, and many players were put off by the “tease” offered by the first few levels being free. Nintendo stock even dropped in response to the poor reception.
In the three months since the December 15 release, too much time may have passed for the release to really matter. Fire Emblem Heroes has been out for a while now with much better reception.
At this point, though, the release may be an obligatory thing. Piracy is rampant on Android, and that was reportedly one of Nintendo’s reasons behind releasing the game on iOS first.
Regardless, Super Mario Run is just a few days away.
