Microsoft has a new tool that makes it easier than ever to switch from Mac to Windows. The tool is aptly called Mac to Surface Assistant, highlighting Microsoft’s own Surface computer brand.
The migration assistant, available for Mac, makes it really easy to switch over content like documents, pictures, music, and other files. When the tool is downloaded, it walks you through the process of selecting the content you want to transfer and compresses it into a zip file. Twitter user WalkingCat was the first to find the tool and post it publicly.
Migrating content from Mac to a Windows machine is not overly complicated, but it can be more of a challenge for people who aren’t too familiar with computers or cloud services that would be required to make the transition seamless. This is probably who the assistant is meant for.
The tool has been temporarily pulled
Microsoft hasn’t formally announced the tool, and has in fact pulled access to the assistant. Trying to use the link now leads to a dead end. However, that didn’t stop people from taking screen shots of the migration assistant, which you can see above. The tool may have leaked out accidentally, and will most likely find its way back once Microsoft is ready to officially release it. Either way, the cat is out of the bag.
