DirecTV Now including free year of HBO with higher tier plans

by Danny Zepeda | March 20, 2017

AT&T announced today DirecTV Now is sweetening its higher tier plans with the inclusion of a free year of HBO.

Currently, DirecTV Now’s Go Big $60 plan and Gotta Have It $70 plan can add on HBO for an additional $5 per month, but now it will be bundled in for free in the form of a $5 credit. It will be a total savings of $60 a year. The Go Big plan includes over 100 channels and Gotta Have It includes over 120 channels.

The move is DirecTV Now’s latest ploy to get customers to buy into its higher tier plans with incentives. It’s also still offering a free Apple TV for customers who prepay for three months of service. This was the initial deal customers were able to take advantage of when the service launched last year. Both the Apple TV and HBO deal will end on March 30.

DirecTV Now is trying to fight off the competition

The latest move from DirecTV is another example of just how competitive the streaming market has become. We already chronicled the differences between Sling TV, PS Vue and DirecTV Now, each of which offer strong reasons to cut the cord. YouTube also has a streaming service on the way, as does Hulu.

With the next season of Game of Thrones on the horizon, DirecTV Now’s latest offer may be too good to pass up.
