System Shock 3, the long-awaited reboot of the cult-classic FPS series, is now set to be released on consoles thanks to the involvement of Starbreeze Publishing. According to the publisher, it is investing $12 million into the project and is expecting to recoup 120 percent of that figure.
Developer OtherSide Entertainment will retain 100 percent of the intellectual property related to System Shock 3 through the agreement. Both the CEO of Starbreeze and OtherSide expressed excitement in this venture.
Bo Andersson-Klint, Starbreeze CEO
System Shock is one of those iconic franchises in the history of games that still gets my blood going and Mr. Spector is one of the founding fathers of the modern action RPG. We’re greatly looking forward to bringing System Shock 3 to players world wide in our collaboration with Otherside Entertainment and Warren Spector’s team. I’ll be first in line to play.
Paul Neurath, OtherSide CEO
We are thrilled to be partnering with Starbreeze for System Shock 3. They truly get games and gamers, and have been able to translate that understanding into a robust publishing business, and build thriving gaming communities around their franchises.
A reboot with all the right moves
System Shock 3 already has a lot in motion going for it. It has secured the aid of Deus Ex and System Shock Producer Warren Spector, and many of the developers working on the game contributed to the first two System Shock titles. PC publisher and rights owner Night Dive Studio is also passionate about bringing back old games and franchises from the dead.
We can expect to see System Shock 3 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2018.
