Say hello to TAG Heuer’s first modular smartwatch

TAG Heuer has taken the wraps off its second Android Wear-powered smartwatch, the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45. If you happen to have a minimum of $1,650 sitting around, waiting to be spent, it’s definitely worth your attention.

As its name suggests, the Modular 45 is fully interchangeable. Everything from the strap to the (chunky) 45mm smartwatch module can be switched out, letting you transform it into an “ordinary” mechanical timepiece, should you want to.

We’re guessing that isn’t the only use of the functionality, though. Typically, manufacturers adopt a modular design to future-proof their products, and we think that as the existing smartwatch module becomes outdated, TAG will release an upgraded version.

In an effort to appeal to a wide range of different clientele, the Connected Modular 45 is extremely customizable. You have the choice of over 500 different design combinations, which include patent leather, rose gold and diamonds.

With regards to internals, the device sports a 1.39-inch AMOLED touchscreen, an Intel Atom Z34XX processor, 4GB of RAM, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, NFC for Android Pay and a 410mAh battery.

On the software front, it’s powered by Android Wear 2.0 and, of course, comes was a slew of exclusive watch faces. You will, however, have the facility to create personalized options in the new TAG Studio app.

Those interested in picking up the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 can do so starting today from the firm’s online store in Australia, Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore.
