“What’s up, doc?” Boomerang service to stream classic cartoons

Adventure Time, Futurama, Spongebob Squarepants, these are all praiseworthy for their humor and wild creativity. But give me a choice between these modern day juggernauts and the classics, and I’ll choose the classics every time.

If you’re in the same boat, then does Time Warner have a service for you. Announced this week, the cable company said it will begin offering a streaming service—$4.99 per month or $39.99 per year—that offers viewers the chance to watch cartoons from Looney Tunes, Hanna-Barbera, and MGM animation.

There will apparently be 5,000 titles in total, offering Bugs Bunny, Tom & Jerry, Scooby-Doo, The Jetsons, and much more. If you grew up watching these shows on Saturday mornings, the service will offer a big dose of nostalgia.

If you already get cable services from Time Warner, you’ll recognize the new Boomerang service as the same cable channel included in your bundle. Now, anyone can access it—for a small sum, of course.

It’s tough finding classic cartoons if you don’t have cable, which makes the arrival of Boomerang so exciting. When it launches later this spring, subscribers will be able to stream via iOS, Android, and on the web, with support for other platforms, including Apple TV, to follow shortly.
