There’s a new king of cards in the Nvidia fiefdom. Fiefdom? Welcome, friends, to 10th-grade World History. Happy to have you.
The GTX 1080 Ti is now the top of the line Nvidia graphics card. It beats out the GTX 1080 by roughly 35%, and it’s even faster than the Titan X.
The new card was revealed during a presentation by Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang at GDC. The official Nvidia blog has a moment that captures the unveiling beautifully.
“Coming out of the box, the stock out of the box 1080 Ti is 35 percent faster than a 1080, faster than a Titan X,” Jen-Hsun said to raucous hoots from the crowd. “…and all of that for $699.”
“Take my money,” one gamer hollered.
This is an 11GB GDDR5X card with memory speeds at 11 Gbps. Its max-capable resolution is a whopping 7680×4320@60Hz. It’s a doozy. It’ll go on sale on March 10, and pre-orders will begin through Nvidia’s official shop on March 2 at 8 a.m. PT.
What does this do to the price of current cards?
Nvidia hasn’t officially announced how the full roster of Nvidia cards will adjust in the wake of the $699 GTX 1080 Ti.
The GTX 1080, though, has dropped from $599 to $499. Others in line should follow suit.
