Nintendo put out a press release this morning detailing some of the finer points of the Nintendo Switch. We’ll have that full release for you in a separate post shortly. For now, we have more retro fish to fry.
In the release, the company finally addressed the Virtual Console-shaped elephant in the room. The Nintendo Switch will not offer access to the Virtual Console at launch. Here’s exactly what the company offered.
Virtual Console games will not be available on Nintendo Switch at launch. We will share more information in the future.
Not at launch doesn’t mean not at all, right?
While I’m not exactly thrilled that Nintendo hasn’t figured out the Virtual Console situation just yet on the Switch, I appreciate the wording found in this release. The fact that they explicitly indicate that the Virtual Console system won’t be available at launch means that we’ll likely see some sort of solution in the future.
I just hope I won’t wind up buying A Link to the Past for the 200th time, frankly.
We’ll have more on the Nintendo Switch as it comes.
