The Nun, a Conjuring 2 spinoff, gets a release date

Remember that spooky nun from The Conjuring 2? She was the demonic spirit who haunted the Hodgson home. If you’ve seen the movie, it’s hard to get her image out of your head. And it’s going to be even harder, because the character is getting her own spinoff.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, New Line Cinema has set a release date of July 13, 2018, for the supernatural thriller, which is aptly titled The Nun.

No real details are known at this time, but THR says the movie will be directed by Corin Hardy, who directed The Hallow. Fans will also be happy to know that James Wan, who directed the first two Conjuring films, will help write the movie’s screenplay.

To give you an idea of how confident New Line Cinema is in the property, the movie is set to open against other July 2018 movies such as Ant-Man and the Wasp and Hotel Transylvania 3. That’s some pretty big competition.

Can’t you see this woman’s a nun?

It will be cool to see the demonic incarnation get a fully fleshed out backstory. Her creepiness is undeniable—just look at those eyes—so it’s not an unexpected move on the studio’s part. I’m sure it’ll also spawn a lot of cool cosplay celebrating the character’s spooky nature.

The Nun will hit theaters on July 13, 2018.
