Niantic and The Pokémon Company rolled out an update to Pokémon GO that brought the second generation of monsters to the game this week. Along with those monsters came more evolutions for the glorious Eevee.
Now, Eevee always randomly evolves into different, elemental based versions of the Pokémon. When the game first came out, players found that naming their Eevees after Pokémon that appeared in the anime would result in a specific evolution. We now have another anime-based easter egg that will guide Eevee towards two more evolutions.
If you name your Eevee Sakura, the owner of an Espeon in the show, your Eevee will evolve into Espeon. If you name your Eevee Tamao, the owner of (you guessed it) an Umbreon in the show, you’ll get an Umbreon.

I love these callouts to the anime!
This is what easter eggs are for, right? They’re callouts to the circle of fans who know their stuff, and Pokémon GO is no different. Seeing stuff like this gives me a stupid grin. So, kudos Niantic. I like it, and I’m sure other fans do, too.
Now, off to find an Eevee or 30 for some candy.
