Exynos 9 processor teased ahead of Galaxy S8 debut

Samsung’s Galaxy S8 will almost certainly include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor when it launches here in the U.S.. It might pack a Samsung-built Exynos chip abroad, though, where Samsung usually sells smartphones powered by its own processors. Now Samsung is starting to tease the Exynos 9, suggesting perhaps that’s bound for the Galaxy S8, too.

SamMobile first spotted the teaser on Twitter. The site warned that, until now, Samsung has pretty much been expected to outfit the Galaxy S8 with an Exynos 8895, one generation newer than the chip we saw in the Galaxy Note 7 last year.

It’s possible that’s still the plan and that Samsung is just teasing an Exynos 9-series chip totally unrelated to the Galaxy S8. Or, perhaps, the company is switching the name of the Exynos 8895 to some sort of new 9-series moniker.

Perhaps Samsung will discuss Exynos 9 during Mobile World Congress at the end of this month. If it does, we’ll know a lot more about whether or not we’ll see it in versions of the Galaxy S8 when the phone is announced sometime next month.
