Watch Dogs 2 is a pretty fun game. It was one of my favorites from last year, and it narrowly missed our best of the year list. It also had a mountain to overcome after launch thanks to the first title.
Ubisoft hasn’t released sales figures for the game yet, but CEO Yves Guillemot talked about it during the company’s recent financial briefing. He said that the game had a “soft” launch in terms of sales, but it’s gone on to see steady growth thanks to positive word of mouth.
Guillemot even said that the publisher is “happy” with how Watch Dogs 2 is doing at retail.
Blame the first game, folks
The original Watch Dogs straddled generations, it suffered a tremendous downgrade in graphics from its debut to its launch, it offered a bland story and it had a boring main character. Watch Dogs 2 is essentially the complete opposite. It’s packed with personality, looks pretty good and boasts genuinely fun gameplay.
So, yes, the positive buzz is warranted. Just as warranted as the initial consumer trepidation. Watch Dogs 2 is likely pretty cheap by now, so you might want to check it out.
