Google Pixel gets new “Home Control” feature

by Brandon Russell | February 9, 2017

Google Home is a powerful hub for controlling your smart home products, and now the same features are being brought over to the Pixel.

Thanks to a new feature inside of Google Assistant, Pixel owners can control products such as Nest, Philips Hue, and more.

The new feature, called Home Control, is buried inside Assistant’s settings, provides users with a centralized place to control their devices. The nice thing is you don’t need a Google Home to control the different devices you use.

Assistant continues to grow

There doesn’t appear to be much to it. Google Assistant is slowly migrating to other devices, so it’s no surprise to finally see feature parity.

Pretty soon, Assistant will be available on more Android devices, so start getting used to it. The fact that Google doesn’t require users to own a Google Home to control their smart devices gives it a leg up over Alexa.

Now, it’s just a matter of Google continuing Assistant’s wider rollout to other devices. The Google Pixel is a good start. If only you could actually buy the Pixel XL.
