Steam leak reveals possible much needed new Steam Client

Earlier this week, the Steam client’s beta was updated with some mysterious files. As discovered by the folks at SteamDB, these files show off a potentially upcoming Steam client refresh.

We’re talking a complete overhaul, referred to as SteamU. Here’s a look at the faded UI:

Interestingly, Valve almost immediately updated the beta once the leak popped up. Their update removed the files, adding fuel to the suspicions that this was, in fact, legit. Of course, the work could have been entirely placeholder and unofficial, but Valve obviously didn’t want it out in the wild.

Steam is overdue for a refresh

Steam is starting to show its age. The storefront has been changed multiple times over, but the actual client experience is showing its age.

The leaked image reveals a home for movies and music, which would make sense as Valve attempts to push Steam out into new multimedia territory. I’m not saying I think these images are 100 percent going to lead to an overhaul, but I do think Valve is entertaining the idea.
