Need for Speed will return by the end of next winter, EA says

Need for Speed will return, EA says, and we won’t have to wait much longer. During yesterday’s financial call, the company addressed the status of a bunch of its core franchises, with Need for Speed among them. EA promised the game will be on shelves and in hands before the end of the next financial year in March of 2018. That gives them about a year-long window to fit something in, but chances are we can expect it this fall or winter.

We don’t know much, yet

EA CEO Andrew Wilson described the game as having “ambitious and more competitive online gameplay,” but didn’t offer up anything else. The most recent entry in the series is the 2015 entry simply titled Need for Speed (pictured below). With a couple years between releases, it seems like EA is giving the series and the team behind it time to breathe and come up with some new ideas.

With Mass Effect: Andromeda just around the corner, new entries in the Need for Speed and Battlefront series, and a new multiplayer game from BioWare on the way, EA’s already looking at a big year.
