TCL already let us get our hands on its upcoming BlackBerry device, dubbed BlackBerry Mercury. Now, the Chinese company has announced it plans to hold a more formal event for the handset, where we can expect to learn its final specs.
According to TCL, an event will be held on February 25, about a month from now. “Distinctly different,” the teaser reads. No other information is provided.
When we saw the device at CES earlier this month, the Mercury reminded us of BlackBerry devices from a bygone era. Not only does it sport a familiar BlackBerry form factor, but it comes with a full QWERTY keyboard, something that’s become exceedingly rare in the era of touch displays.
We still don’t know the specs
Although the device’s metal design felt great, we still don’t have the full picture. For one, TCL didn’t share specs, an important barometer in today’s market. We are pretty confident this will be a midrange smartphone, however.
It’s also worth noting that the handset we saw at CES was still a work in progress, so what we see next month should be better in quality. We’ll know more soon.
