UK retailer GAME has listed a release date for Splatoon 2. Nintendo already said it would be out in the summer, and GAME seems to think the date will be Aug. 18, thanks to its listing.
Of course, this is also the UK date, and Nintendo sometimes has delayed releases in the region.
As of writing, the date hasn’t been removed yet, meaning either GAME hasn’t caught on or is confident in its estimation.
Splatoon 2 is scheduled to be the 4th major game to hit the Switch
Looking at Nintendo’s plan, Splatoon 2 will follow The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, ARMS and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as the fourth major game to hit the console. With the timing between launch in March and five months later in August, that works out to shy of a new game every month. Super Mario Odyssey is expected shortly afterward.
When I think back to first-year line-ups, the Nintendo 64 definitely comes to mind. Nintendo didn’t bum rush the market with new games; instead, it let the good stuff find its way to gamers slowly. Mario Kart 64, Star Fox, GoldenEye. These games weren’t crammed into the first month, but rather, they were spread out.
The Nintendo 64 didn’t sell as well as the PlayStation in the end, but that was due to many factors. Few would argue against the nostalgia value of the Nintendo 64’s first year, and that’s because those who bought it were forced to savor their games a month or so at a time.
My point is, don’t worry. The good stuff will come, and this leaked date means Nintendo’s plan is in place.
