Borderlands 3 will not appear on the Nintendo Switch, says Gearbox boss

Borderlands seems like a nice fit for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo wants to keep reaching out for big third-party franchises, and the series is one of the best for multiplayer. Being able to play with your friends in the same room is a major plus, something that the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC might struggle doing!

Gearbox thought it was a nice fit, too, and was in discussions with Nintendo, but those have apparently broken down. According to CEO Randy Pitchford, we shouldn’t expect to see Borderlands 3 on the Nintendo Switch anytime soon.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel might still be a possibility

However, Pitchford did not rule out the appearance of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. The game can run on the Nvidia Shield, which uses very similar tech found in the Nintendo Switch. Thanks to this, Pitchford seems a bit more open to the idea.

Either way, Borderlands is a popular franchise, but it doesn’t have quite the same draw it did half a decade ago. Does this decision make or break the Switch? Probably not, but third-party support from anything is nice.
