It seems when Deadpool puts on the red suit again, two old friends will be along for the ride.
Cable was announced for Deadpool 2 very early on, and then we heard that Domino would also be joining the film, but there was no word on his previous mutant buddies, Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead. In a new interview with Collider, it was confirmed by the writers of the sequel that they will have at least some presence in the film.
PAUL WERNICK: I can’t say how much they are…
RHETT REESE: I think we can say. Yeah, they’ll be in the sequel.
WERNICK: Yeah, they’ll make at least an appearance.
Negasonic should be everywhere, really
It was revealed last year that Fox paid a somewhat high price to use Negasonic Teenage Warhead. While Fox had the film rights to the character, they wanted to change her powers, and that required permission from Marvel. The House of Ideas made a trade saying that Fox could do as they pleased if they gave up the film rights to the character of Ego the Living Planet.
While normally the rights to such a minor character wouldn’t mean that much, James Gunn had written a major role for Ego in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as he believed Marvel had the rights. If the studio had been unable to secure the rights to him it would have meant a total film rewrite.
With all of this in mind, it’s surprising that Negasonic wouldn’t just be hovering in the background of every scene of Deadpool 2.
