A large gallery of renders for a new smartphone case might actually reveal the design of the Galaxy S8. Don’t get your hopes up too quickly, though. Case renders can be (and often are) wrong.
On the other hand, they have often been useful for showing us the final designs of a new smartphone in the past. Case-designers, especially large partners of phone-makers, sometimes get the details on the new devices ahead of time. This allows them to develop cases so that there’s a selection of accessories available at launch.
Here, we see a bunch developed by a firm named Ghostek, which allegedly show the Galaxy S8. There isn’t a home button, which aligns with rumors that Samsung is ditching it and may embed the fingerprint reader under the display. The 3.5mm headphone jack is gone, again singing true with recent rumors.
There also isn’t a charging port in sight since this is a water-resistant case. That in and of itself is a bit weird given that Samsung has adopted IP68 ratings for its smartphones, which is expected to continue to the Galaxy S8, but extra protection never hurts.
Galaxy S8 release date rumors
Take it at face value. If this is indeed the Galaxy S8, it’s a nice looking phone. Rumor has it the phone will be unveiled during Mobile World Congress next month in Barcelona, but may not launch until April.
