Scalebound (2)

Updated at 3:30 p.m.: Scalebound has officially been canceled. Microsoft issued the following statement to Windows Central.

After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for “Scalebound.” We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including “Halo Wars 2,” “Crackdown 3,” “State of Decay 2,” “Sea of Thieves” and other great experiences. That clarification didn’t take long, did it? Find our original story below the gallery.

Original Story: Scalebound, the Xbox One and Windows 10 exclusive from Platinum Games, might be in trouble. Kotaku has it “according to several sources” that the game may be canceled.

This title comes from Bayonetta Director Hideki Kamiya, and many have pinned it as one Xbox One title that they were really looking forward to following its announcement. Most recently, Microsoft skipped the game in their post on the Xbox Wire for what’s coming to the platform in 2017. The game isn’t even mentioned.

The most damning evidence in all of this, perhaps, is that Microsoft has delisted the game’s page on their official site. That’s not just someone letting a trademark expire on accident; no, that’s the actual removal of site files.

Microsoft told Kotaku that they’ll have more about Scalebound “soon.” Here’s that full statement.

We’ll have more to share on ‘Scalebound’ soon.

Right, brief. If we hear more, we’ll either update this story or post a new one. Stay tuned.
