There are some light spoilers in the video. Don’t watch it if you want to go in completely blind to the game.
The Last Guardian released in December. I liked the game. Quite a bit, actually. I don’t think it’ll stand as one of the best games ever in quite the same way Shadow of the Colossus does, but it’s a lot of fun.
It’s also a game that’s high profile enough to earn the regular Honest Game Trailers roasting. That’s what you’ll see at the head of this post. The episode predictably knocks the game’s controls, dealing with Trico and, of course, the opaque nature of the game.
Overall, I think Honest Game Trailers has done better. Sure, The Last Guardian took forever to develop. Sure, controlling Trico can be frustrating. This feels like they read a few reviews, played the game for a bit for footage and tossed a pile of obvious jokes together.
It’s, hmm, it’s okay. Which is what they say about the game, oddly enough. For my money, The Last Guardian is better than okay.
