With Nvidia’s presentation at CES yesterday, we got a wave of fresh Mass Effect: Andromeda information and media. First and foremost is the game’s official release date. Mass Effect: Andromeda will hit the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms on March 21, 2017.
Only a few weeks before Persona 5, my goodness will someone please help me…
In addition to the release date, we got the gameplay trailer you see at the head of this post. That gameplay footage also leads to some screenshots, courtesy of the folks at Game Informer, which you’ll see below.
The clip shows a lot of the game’s menu in action
Mass Effect‘s always been an RPG, right? Some argue, and I agree, that the franchise was distilled more and more with each entry, moving further away from the hardcore RPG stuff BioWare’s good at and closer to what the mainstream will, let’s say, tolerate.
Based solely on the menu system in the trailer, it looks like we’ll be juggling lots of customization options for our characters as we move headlong into battle. There’s a moment, though, where the menu gives the option to automatically upgrade abilities. I imagine that’s there for those who’d like to take a more casual, hands-off approach.
If this game goes as in-depth as each individual player wants, that’ll be huge. Dragon Age: Origins did that, and I loved it.
