I gotta save my pennies. Porsche recently provided pricing and new information on the 2017 Porsche 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S and, dang, I wish I had a trust fund to tap into.
Porsche said both models were built to pay “homage to the flat-four cylinder engines that were used in the mid-engine Porsche 718 sports car” that crossed many a finish line at the top of the pack back when our dads were kids in the 50s and 60s.
Under the hood, you’re lookin at a flat four-cylinder engine with 300hp in the 718 Boxster and 30hp in the 718 Boxster S and retuned suspension. All said, you’ll go from sitting at a redlight to zipping down the road at 60mph in just 4.5 seconds in the 718 Boxster, and 0-60mph at 4 seconds in the 718 Boxster S.
Hold onto your hat, bucko.
Porsche said it also tweaked every angle of the car, save for the “luggage compartment, the windshield and the convertible top.” That adds up to a new body design with 3D LED tail lights, new break lights, a fresh interior with updated navigation and an optional Porsche DPK with “fuel-saving virtual gears.”
The cars are on sale now and hit U.S. dealers in June. The 718 Boxster will start at $56,000 while the 718 Boxster S will set you back at least $68,400.
