Pokémon GO is now officially available for the Apple Watch. The release follows reports that suggested the wearable version of the popular iOS and Android game had been scrapped entirely after the initial announcement in September. Looks like those rumors were bunk.
Assuming it’s unchanged from when Niantic first announced the Apple Watch tie-in, the game should offer a Complication so you can keep track of how many steps you’ll need to walk before you hatch a new egg. Also, it should alert users how far away the nearest Pokéstop or Gym is. Kinda neat for folks who own an Apple Watch, but totally useless for everyone else.
No, you can’t use the tiny screen to catch Pokémon or anything but, hey, this makes the experience a bit more fun. Plus, you won’t need to take your phone out to check the location of nearby gyms or pokestops, which should save you some extra battery life. The app should be available for folks with the Pokémon GO game downloaded on a device paired with the Apple Watch.
