The NPD Group is reporting that the NES Classic Edition is a huge hit for Nintendo to the extent that they sold out everywhere across the country. In total, the high-demand product has sold 196,000 units across the U.S. to lucky buyers everywhere.
Which is so strange. How did it sell so many units? I certainly couldn’t find any! Explain that paradox, Nintendo!
Could have been a bigger hit, but Nintendo messed up
Nintendo admitted that it was blindsided by the demand for the NES Classic despite every news outlet on the planet saying it was going to be the hottest item of the year. If 196,000 units were sold across the United States, can you imagine how many would have been sold if the demand had been met.
One million? Two million? We’ll never know because the opportunity to gauge how strong the nostalgia is for the NES has been blown.
As we know, the last big chance to buy one before Christmas now is at Best Buy on Dec. 20, but you’ll have to go line up at the store.
