“Black pearl” Galaxy S7 edge unveiled!

Samsung officially unveiled a “black pearl” version of the Galaxy S7 Edge on Thursday. It’s different from the current black model that Samsung currently sells, appearing to be a bit more like the deep “jet black” iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The color joins Samsung’s new “Blue coral” and pink gold editions of the phone, which only recently started to hit US carriers.

The black pearl Galaxy S7 Edge will be a bit more exclusive, however. Samsung says it will only ship with 128GB of storage, instead of the standard 32GB option, which means it’s probably going to be a bit more expensive. Keep in mind that the 32GB options still have microSD card slots, however, so you can always boost the storage anyway.

Samsung says the black pearl model was “designed to be modern and striking,” as opposed to the “calming, natural hues” offered by the aforementioned blue coral and pink gold editions. “The sleek black finish blankets the entire device – edges and all – and adds depth to its glass design,” Samsung said. “The result is a stylish all-black aesthetic that captures the essence of the color in its purest form.”

You might just want to wait for the Galaxy S8 instead

The phone will make its debut “in select markets” beginning December 9, but Samsung didn’t announce pricing or specific launch markets. Considering the Galaxy S8 is just over the horizon, due out on the market likely in March or April at the latest, you might want to hold off on the Galaxy S7 Edge for now. It’s a fantastic phone, no doubt, but one that’s about to be replaced by something even better.
