The Nintendo Switch may charge with a USB-C cable.
As with all rumors, especially ones with a foundation built on retail listings and leaks, take this with a grain of salt. That said, this one is super compelling, and I’ll explain why in a bit.
EB Games Australia’s online shot has a listing for an “@play Nintendo Switch Extra-Long 3m Charging Cable.” Here’s a screenshot for posterity:
The product’s description further cooks up the meat and potatoes of this rumor.
USB-A to USB-C Charging Cable compatible with the Nintendo Switch Console.
The implication here is that the Nintendo Switch will feature charging by way of USB-C.
If the Nintendo Switch uses USB-C to charge, this is a huge win.
Well, I didn’t think I’d ever be excited by news of a specific charging cable for a home console before, yet here I am.
The Nintendo Switch, we already know, is a portable/home hybrid console. We’ve also heard rumors that its battery life is less than stellar on the go.
Now, Nintendo has a history of using proprietary cables for their portable systems. That’s always been the standard in the industry, though, regardless of maker. That could change with the Nintendo Switch, and that’s incredible.
With the paltry battery life in mind, it will be amazing to have the option to plug my Nintendo Switch into one of my portable recharging stations, my laptop, the side of my airplane seat or wherever I find a USB port.
If this is legit, it’s tremendous news.
