Over the weekend, Sony and Level-5 debuted a new trailer for the sequel to Ni no Kuni. The original title was an RPG with art dreamed up by the masters at Studio Ghibli.

This sequel? It looks unbelievably good. The trailer blends cutscenes and actual gameplay, all running on the PlayStation 4, and the colors, soundtrack and dialogue work together to create a game I really, really want to play.

That’s it, I’m diving into Ni no Kuni again

Sure, the original had its share of problems, but Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch was a beautiful game with an exceptional story. This new trailer for its sequel has me yearning for another trip into the expertly crafted world.

There’s just something about the combination of Level-5 and Studio Ghibli that makes this all so magical. The two have a history of creating wondrous adventures that capture defining qualities of childhood, and the original Ni no Kuni encapsulated that really well. That’s why I’m looking forward to the sequel.

Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is due for the PlayStation 4 in 2017. The exact date hasn’t been announced.
