Sports Illustrated cover shot with Moto Z and Hasselblad mod

by Todd Haselton | December 4, 2016

Motorola revealed this week that the December issue of Sports Illustrated magazine features a cover shot with the Moto Z and a Hasselblad True Zoom Mod. You can see the cover, featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson above.

Motorola didn’t provide a whole lot of detail about how it went down, only noting that the photographer was Mike LeBrecht, but there’s proof the phone was used in a small interview clip with Johnson at the source below. In the clip, there’s a quick snippet where you see the photographer shooting the image with a Moto Z attached to a tripod and a bunch of stage lights. I’m not quite sure how the lighting worked in tandem, but then again, I’m also not a photographer.

Moto Z’s Hasselblad camera good enough for a magazine cover

We already knew the Moto Z Hasselblad True Zoom Mod was good, but we’re impressed it was used to shoot the cover of a magazine that’s going to be on newsstands around the globe.
