Someone fan me: The Last of Us Part II is happening. Sony kicked off its PlayStation Experience keynote this morning with a clip of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, starring Chloe. Obviously, that would be what Naughty Dog is working on right now, right?
No, that’s just one of their projects. It turns out Naughty Dog wasn’t just kicking off the show, it was book-ending it. PlayStation boss Shawn Layden ended the show with a “one more thing” moment and got out of the way to show us an overgrown forest, a broken down car, and an old house – and then a street sign with the logo for the Firefly resistance, one of the core factions of The Last of Us, spray-painted on.
Something went wrong.
The trailer slowly reveals an older, rougher Ellie in a house littered with fresh corpses. Whatever’s happened since the original game has taken its toll on Ellie, and it seems she’s out for revenge. Joel asks her if she’s going to through with “it,” and she replies that she intends to kill every last one of them.
Whether something new has happened since the original game, or her vendetta is connected with the twist that ended the original, is unclear.
No release date was provided, but we can likely look forward to this one sometime in 2018.
