Back in November, a leak claimed Telltale was working on a Guardians of the Galaxy video game. Turns out, that leak was right on the money.
Announced at the Game Awards on Thursday, the new game will take an episodic approach to the Marvel property. The first episode of the five-part series is expected to launch early next year for PC, consoles, and mobile devices.
“The energizing blend of humor, emotion, teamwork, and full-on sci-fi action-adventure of the Guardians provides an enormously satisfying space to explore through Telltale’s unique style of interactive storytelling,” said Kevin Bruner, CEO of Telltale Games.
Telltale first announced it was developing a game based on a Marvel property back in early 2015, so it’s been a long time coming. The studio has previously brought The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Minecraft to life, using a unique blend of art and humor to create engaging adventures.
“In Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series, players will take on multiple roles within the ragtag band of heroes, and take the pilot seat in directing their escapades around the universe,” Bruner said.
There’s a movie, too
A Guardians of the Galaxy series makes sense considering a new movie from Marvel is slated to hit theaters next May. Whether Telltale’s game will feature any stories or characters from the Guardians sequel remains to be seen.
If you don’t want to buy each episode of the series individually, Telltale will also offer a special season pass disc, which will give gamers access to all five episodes.
