Nintendo is taking over publishing rights for Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King from Square Enix, and now that Dragon Quest VII has come and gone, the hype for its successor is just getting started.
The PlayStation 2 Classic is widely beloved for its charming characters that were heightened by the power of the PlayStation 2 to give them voices! These voices will survive the leap to the Nintendo 3DS, albeit at the expense of orchestrated music, and they still sound fabulous in this new story trailer.
The extra something that Dragon Quest VII misses
I’d be lying if I said Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past is an easy game to beat. I love it to pieces, but at nearly 30 hours in, I’m struggling to stay interested knowing that I’m barely even a third of the way finished. The game is long, and even though I think it’s a fabulous and unique creation, it lacks an emotional pillar at the center of its short stories and world building.
Dragon Quest VIII fixes that with five main characters at the helm. One silent protagonist, three emotive companions, and an NPC king transformed into a goblin. With this band of sojourners, you can look forward to both fun times with the entire world at your fingertips.
Dragon Quest VIII will be released for the Nintendo 3DS on Jan. 20, 2017.
