Unlocked HTC 10 handsets get Android 7.0 Nougat

Picked up a cheap HTC 10 for Black Friday? Now you’re in for another treat, because unlocked versions of the device have just started getting the Android 7.0 Nougat update. Carrier-locked versions are expected to get it soon.

“HTC 10 unlocked owners will receive Nougat OS update tomorrow morning,” tweeted HTC Product Manager Mo Versi late Thursday night. There are no details on where the rollout will begin, but several Versi followers in the U.S. confirmed they had already seen it.

Major upgrades like this one tend to rollout in phases, so it might take a little while for it to reach all HTC 10 handsets in all markets. However, we know for sure it’s on its way, so the wait will be over soon — at least for those not tied to a carrier.

Those who are will have to wait for carrier approval, but now that the software is ready, you can be sure HTC will be keen to get it out to everyone as quickly as possible.

Nougat brings a number of big changes and improvements to Android, including split-screen multitasking, an improved virtual reality experience with Daydream, dozens of new emoji characters, and better battery life.

Have you received Nougat on your HTC 10 yet? Let us know down in the comments.
