BioWare has provided the world with three screenshots of new gameplay features in Mass Effect: Andromeda. The images come to us from Game Informer.
First up is the Nomad, the latest vehicle to enter the Mass Effect universe. BioWare says it will be similar to the Mako from the first game, but it won’t have any offensive weaponry. On the flip side, it will control a lot better and not feel like you’re constantly stuck in a mud puddle with chains on your tires.
Flamethrowers will also be built into Ryder’s N7 armor. The ability can be picked up on the character’s progression tree, one of many upgrades that turn Ryder into the new Shepard. The flamethrower is special in that any job class can utilize it thanks to the loosely defined trees. I mean, it’s fire! Come on!
The last of the screenshots is very Metroid Prime-ish, showing off the new scanning ability. Not only will scanning various characters, enemies, and objects fill up your codex, it also provides the characters more blueprints for constructing items.
Mass Effect is back and better than ever
That’s a bit of a tall order considering I believe Mass Effect 2 to be the best video game from the last decade. However, it’s nice to see that BioWare is attempting to add a few ideas to the mix. A plain retread on what was already perfected in the second game would be boring.
Mass Effect: Andromeda will hopefully be able to establish itself as a standout in a franchise full of strong games. Mass Effect: Andromeda will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in March 2017.
